We’ve all heard after the pandemic is gone, “how companies do business will never be the same.” At least in some part, that will be true.
Whether it is how your customers now want to do business or in what space you and your employees now want to work, things are going to be different.
Customers shift their habits
After the initial lock downs, customers came around to deciding with whom and how they wanted to do business.
Two years ago, I would have NEVER considered buying a car online, sight unseen. I want to see all the cars on the lot, kick the tires, look under the hood, take a test drive, and haggle. Or, at least I wanted to. Just this week I purchased a car with an online vendor. The vendor is reputable, and the ease of purchase makes this kind of deal a no brainer for me in the future. The convenience of the transaction outweighs my desire to check out the new car smell before plunking down my money.
Buyers have become more comfortable making big purchases online and the “network effect” of the more users there are the more will follow, is only going to make that comfort grow. Whether your business is on the industry side or the office side, your customer’s shopping and buying habits are shifting.
Where do you go from here?
A good place to start may be looking back at what your customers asked for in the last two quarters of 2020.
Did they ask to…
- Schedule a time to come in rather than just stop by the shop meaning an online scheduling platform for your customers would be helpful?
- See your inventory online, make their purchase, and have it delivered requiring a shift in resources towards e-shopping and delivery options?
- Electronically sign a document rather than printing, signing, and finding a delivery method making e-sign or e-fax capabilities a must have?
- Do contract negotiations via email or video conference resulting in the need for encrypted email or secure video space?
